Naples Half / Broke Man's WWU Training Week 2

You can find more #chasethebird shots on my Instagram

Hello again, I'm back with Hoho Runs and MissSippiPiddlin’s Weekly Review linkup. I'm on Week 2 of training for the Broke Man's Winter Warm Up 7.5 Miler (January 17) and the Naples Half Marathon (February 14). You can read more about each event in last week's training recap

Week of Nov 9–15

Monday: 2 miles, 9:07 pace
Tuesday: 3 miles, 9:04 pace
Wednesday: 3 miles, 8:53 pace
Thursday: 1 mile, 8:28 pace
Friday: 3 miles, 8:43 pace (best run of the week)
Saturday: 5 miles in Ashtabula, 8:57 pace (with a few stops to take photos)
Sunday: 1 mile, 7:58

Total: 18.1 miles

Laurentia Winery – I highly recommend a trip!

Because I'm running before work, I generally end up looping my neighborhood. It's getting a little boring, but I don't want to deal with morning traffic on the surrounding streets. I tried to mix it up a little bit with a mid-week run featuring hill repeats near a golf course. We went to Ashtabula this weekend to see Alex's parents and visit the winery where his cousin is the winemaker. While there, I ran 5 relatively hilly miles. I stopped a few times for photos, so I think my 8:57 pace isn't completely realistic.

I'm keeping up with the #chasethebird challenge, but haven't won any prizes. I don't have to run everyday (in fact, the only requirement is 15 minutes of activity a day), but I've decided to treat it as a run streak and run 1 mile on my normal rest days. It ends on Thanksgiving, but I'll go at least one or two days over because I missed November 1st due to sickness.

Other than running, this week included an ambassador meet-up for the Broke Man's Winter Warm Up (check me out on the ambassador page!), a work happy hour, and the aforementioned trip to Ashtabula. All-in-all, a pretty low key week. I was able to start and almost finish my (online) Christmas shopping yesterday, which is a huge relief!

How was your week?

  1. I love how the leaves look like sparkling stars in your picture. I typically stick to my neighborhood too because there is no traffic. I find it comforting somehow, not really boring -- although it should be. The winery looks lovely. I somehow missed out on the #chasethebird challenge. This is the first I've heard of it. I wish I could say I've started my shopping. I appreciate you linking with us, Elizabeth!

    1. My neighborhood is barely a mile loop so it gets tedious on 5 or 6 mile mornings. I used to run somewhere else after work, but I'm trying to be a morning runner. I guess I should get up earlier. It's so hard! ;)

  2. Looks like a great week of training! I'm having so much fun with #chasethebird! I've been doing Jasyoga everyday and it's been great!

    1. I should start Jasyoga. The price is great and I know deep down I need some yoga in my running life!

  3. Ahhhh good. Idea to treat the challenge as a run streak. I'm so jealous you have almost finished your Christmas shopping. Where on line did you find the best deals? So glad you linked with us too!

    1. I bought a lot at Kohl's (online) with a 30% off coupon, some on Amazon and Bath & Body (also with a coupon), and I like to look at Modcloth for cute ideas. Last year I went to Marshall's/TJ Maxx and found some amazing boxes and baskets to use in place of gift bags. They were a great price and people seemed to love them and use them after Christmas. Thanks for having me at the linkup. :)

  4. Oh man, the winery was gorgeous. I wish we'd been able to see it during peak fall color!

  5. Looks like a great week of training! I've been seeing the #chasethebird hashtag all over social media but didn't really know the details. 15 minutes of activity per day sounds totes reasonable :)

    1. It's been a good motivator during lighter milage weeks. Otherwise, I would totally sleep in. ;)

  6. I love your pictures! That winery looks nice! Great week of running! I do laps around my neighborhood all the time. It does get boring, but I don't like to venture too far from home unless I have a friend with me.
