Thing-A-Day 25: necklace from tutorials

I made two (super easy) necklaces based on tutorials I found online. The first, is the chain tassel necklace and the second is a feathery bead necklace. I bought cheap leather stuff for the bead and feather necklace, so mine's all kinky. Definitely go for quality! (Also, I highly recommend that site for fashion forward-DIYs!)

Thing-A-Day 24: color palette

Color palette for work. Work is busy, hence the thing-a-day crossover.

Thing-A-Day 23: more photos

Work is nuts and about all I can manage right now is some photography. As I've mentioned before, I am not a photographer, but I am borrowing an awesome camera that I've got to learn to use. I'm still getting some shaky photos and weird lightening situations, but it's already getting better! I need to venture out in the daylight some day...

Thing-A-Day 22: new (to me) camera

I'm borrowing a digital SLR for a little while to gear up for use in England. I brought it out today and, unfortunately, came up with only a few usable pictures. I apparently need to read the camera booklet. I thought I'd be okay winging it having used a manual SLR and a regular digital camera... but I suppose this is not the case. Lots of blurry photos and glaring flash!

Thing-A-Day 21: Chestnut Ridge

Apparently thing-a-day is becoming a park-a-day experience for me. Maybe I'll get back to arts and crafts next week.

Today's trip was to Chestnut Ridge. We'd been before for an archery class and a hike in the fall. It's a pretty great park. Very different from the other flat ones in the area (Blacklick, Highbanks). I think if I keep trying to hike in the snow I'm going to need some of these bad boys.

We saw a deer near the observation deck (overlooking the area with downtown in the distance). We didn't notice the deer for a while, but she showed up in some of my earlier photos (not shown here). Pretty cool.

Thing-A-Day 20 Part 3: Audubon Center

Our final stop was the brand new Grange Insurance Audubon Center. I absolutely love the building. It's fantastic. The inside is pretty awesome, too. Unfortunately, when it's 30 degrees outside birds are few and far between. I saw some Canadian geese, but that was about it. The plans for the garden in the back looked fantastic. We've decided to go back during nice weather to enjoy everything the center has to offer.

These bird windows are great.

After all our park-hopping Tobias was spent. Honestly, I think we all were.
But it is pretty fun to see three great places in a few hours with limited driving. Columbus pride!

Thing-A-Day 20 Part 2: Indian Run Falls + cool house

After Hayden Falls, we went to Indian Run Falls. Alex used to work in Dublin and scouted this out a while ago. The falls were still pretty frozen, so the photos weren't as cool (I need a better camera!). It was pretty fun, albeit even more slippery than the last place (I need some better boots!).

On the way to our third destination (next post), we stopped by the coolest house in the area. It's pretty secluded, next to a river, railroad track, and a lovely wooden lot. It also has the advantage of being really close to a main road. It's a little hidden nature in the city.

Thing-A-Day 20 Part 1: Hayden Falls

Today, Alex, Tobias, and I went to Hayden Falls. The snow has been melting and we saw something on the news about waterfalls in their prime. Anyway, we took a little trip around Columbus and hit up a few places (those are to come).

The path and stairs were super slippery, but that didn't keep people away. It was relatively busy and we had to avoid getting in some engagement photos.

I would definitely recommend Hayden Falls for a little nature without having to drive far out.

Thing-A-Day 18: illustration

Tonight I made a quick sketch based on a look from Lyn Devon Fall 2010 RTW. This was loosely based on look 12 as I mimicked the pose, dress type, and the red hair. The rest I kind of made up. I also made two versions and think one is better than the other (which is why I've shared an enlarged version). This was really fast and using the trackpad (yarrrrggg) so some clean-up would be lovely.

Thing-A-Day 17: Tobias

This is kind of a cop out, but I'm currently working on some freelance stuff and I have to keep that under-wraps. I used today as an excuse to 1. take my dog's photo and 2. continue to work on my scarf.
