Naples Half / Broke Man's WWU Training Week 4

Hola. I'm back with another Weekly Review linkup with Hoho Runs and MissSippiPiddlin. My goal races this winter include the Broke Man's Winter Warm Up and the Naples Half Marathon. You can read more about each in Week 1's recap

Week of Nov 23-29

Monday: 1 mile, 8:06
Tuesday: 5 miles, 8:45 pace
Wednesday: 1.4 miles, 8:17 pace
Thursday: Turkey Trot, 5 miles, 8:27 pace
Friday: 3 miles, 8:43 pace
Saturday: 1 mile, 8:14
Sunday: 6 miles, 9:12 pace (plus lots of photo stops)

Total: 22.4 miles

Well, one bummer this week: my weekly total should have been 23 miles, but I came up short. I had one more 1 mile (aka rest day) run than normal, mainly due to the fact that I ran farther than I was supposed to last Sunday and needed a day off. I heeded the sage advice of internet runners and listened to my body. (And slept in.)
My Strava chart looked pretty cool after the streak

A recap is coming for Thursday's Turkey Trot, but let's just say it was a "great success!" (Does anyone [else] quote Borat anymore?)

I put in some #OptOutside miles for Black Friday and completed my #chasethebird run streak. (Summary here.) I haven't broken the streak yet, but it's only been three days. By the way, I did shop on BF, but I spent $13 on Clif gels and a 2016 planner. Exciting stuff!

We sure do.
Saturday's long run happened Sunday because the weather was kind of icky, I slept in, and we had to be at an Ohio State / Michigan thing at 11am. At a bar. Honestly, we went to a fundraiser for the local NPR station. Money from drinks and raffle tickets went to the station. Attendees got catered food and a nice big screen view of the game. It was our third year attending and we didn't win the white water rafting prize we were gunning for, but we still had a great time. Plus, the Buckeyes won. They almost made up for last week. And before you say anything, I know OSU fans are obnoxious. Believe me. I live in the heart of it all. ;)

On campus - Ohio Stadium
I woke up Sunday with grand plans to run around the neighboring areas but needed some motivation, so I roped Alex into being my bike escort. We ended up snaking through Ohio State's campus and taking photos for #RunChatHunt. I found two items (bridge and "something that best represents your city"). I participated in the July scavenger hunt (my post) and had a great time. I highly recommend trying it out if you use twitter or instagram.

Unfortunately, we ran into a police road block and stopped to watch the drama, not knowing what was going on. Eventually a few dozen cop cars, some ambulances, and a SWAT van showed up and Alex said we should leave. Turns out, it was a bad situation. I won't lie, after we left I kept checking my phone for news, so my run included a ton of stops and starts. I finished the last mile at a quick pace, but didn't feel like going for the full 7. When I stop for more than a few minutes I usually can't get my mojo back.

Despite that weird end, my week was pretty great. I don't know if I'll jump right into the Runner's World streak or sleep in one day and let it slip away. I guess we'll see how it goes. My goal for the week? Find a cheap (cheapcheapcheap) 5k to race before the end of the year. We have one on January 1, but it's not a PR course.

What are your goals for the week?
Have you ever participated in a running scavenger hunt?
What's your favorite holiday song?

  1. I haven't done a scavenger hunt. It sounds fun, though! That was a BAD situation you ran up on. I didn't go out and shop on Black Friday but I think I may have done some Amazon Priming early that morning. I got outside for a few miles too after some decorating. I think my favorite holiday song is Sleigh Ride by the Boston Pops. I appreciate you linking with us, Elizabeth!

    1. I didn't feel too bad about shopping on Friday because it was at a local store and I was trying to wait out the rain before my #OptOutside run. Though maybe I failed that REI challenge haha ;) I love Sleigh Ride! Great choice.

  2. Looks like a great week of running! That Scavenger Hunt sounds like fun! That was quite a situation that you ran into. So sad! I have so many holiday favorites, but I gotta say "Mary Did You Know?" or "O Holy Night" are at the top of my list.
