ORRRC Half Training Week 0

Saturday w/my training group (I'm in blue in the back row)

Welcome to another Weekly Review linkup with Hoho Runs and MissSippiPiddlin. I have a new plan, so let's get to it!

After my half was canceled, I decided to take a few weeks off. I ran Warm Up for Boston and extra miles with Chelsea last Sunday, but the rest of this week was pretty light.

Monday – Friday: off
Saturday: 8.5 miles, 10:35 pace (w/training group)
Sunday: 2.1 miles, 8:41 pace

Total: 10.6 miles

I'm calling this Training Week 0 because my next cycle starts tomorrow. I've finally signed up for my next race! It's the Ohio River Road Runners Club (ORRRC) Half Marathon in Xenia, Ohio on April 10. I chose this race for a few reasons:
  1. the weather should be mild
  2. it's a small race
  3. the first few miles are hilly, but then it levels off when you start running on a trail
The terrain and field size are close to my favorite race: the Loveland Half. For some reason Loveland is a magical course for me, so I'm hoping to mimic that in Xenia. The elevation is a little intimidating (not fast and flat), but it will be a "fun" challenge.

This training cycle will be abbreviated. I've only got 42 days so I'm using the last six weeks of my normal 20 week training plan. Despite my two weeks off I'm still in decent shape, so I'll try to rally and get in my miles. When I stopped my run streak I lost motivation to get out and run on cold nights, so my biggest challenge will be getting in my miles and trying to adhere to the specified times. Deep down inside I hope I can find enough motivation to really rock the next six weeks and run a sub 2 half. I know I can do it in the fall at Loveland, but it would be kind of awesome to get it out of the way. ;) We shall see.

What's your current running goal?
Did you watch the Oscars? (I plan to watch a bit.)

  1. Running goal - to try to get a little faster on my 5 and 10Ks so I don't get passed like standing still in triathlons. Oscars, doubtful. All the good stuff is way past my bed time. I'll look it all up in the morning, though!

    1. I stayed up way too late watching the Oscars and most of it was pretty boring. Good luck on your goal! I want to focus on 5 and 10ks after this half.

    1. It's a weird feeding, but I hope to get some extra motivation form my break. :)

  3. You will be fine. It's a half! I'm training for the Big Sur Marathon in April. But I have a half in Sarasota Florida in 2 weeks! It's a training run...

    1. I've only run half marathons (no fulls for me), so I still think of halves as hard. ;)

  5. My running goal is to stay healthy and complete the London Marathon on April 24th. Good luck with the colder weather and hopefully having a race on your calendar will give you the motivation to get out and run!

  6. My current running goal is to just be able to run, ha ha. I'm currently battling some piriformis issues. Oh Joy. I didn't watch the Oscars but as soon as I got up this morning I checked to see if Leo won and he did, ha ha.

  7. My running goal is to get some speed back after spending time training for a marathon, getting injured, and then recovering from another marathon. I'm glad you signed up for another half. I like the smaller races. Good luck on the sub 2. I know you can do it! It has eluded me for way too long. Thanks for linking up Elizabeth.

    1. I'm glad you're ready to train again for speed! Smaller races area great. I know some people really like the crowd support at larger ones, but sometimes I enjoy being able to zone out. We'll see how it goes!

  8. Yay for another race! April is not that far off, I know you'll be fine to jump right in. I hope the next few weeks of training goes well for you and crossing my fingers everything falls right in line for a sub 2! Thanks so much for joining us in the Weekly Wrap!

  9. I have less than 5 weeks to go for my first marathon. I chose a 6 month Galloway training plan, so I have been training faithfully for over 5 months. Kind of scared what life is going to be like when it stops ! Good luck on starting a new plan.

    1. That is a solid training cycle! I'm excited to see how your race goes. I was training pretty consistently for the past 5-6 months and when I stopped I missed it a lot... but it was also hard for me to start back up! Whoops. ;)
